Farm Locations has been set up to make it much easier for photographers, film-makers, production houses and location finders, to source their shoot location from one single point of contact.
With many farming connections to hand, we have been able to pool together some wonderful farms, farm yards, farm land, woodland, lakes, and wildernesses, all within a few miles of each other, all of which we know personally. They straddle the Romney Marsh and neighbouring landscapes of Kent and then across the border into 1066 country and the High Weald of East Sussex.
One such example of a film set for those seeking a rustic, beautiful farmyard and farm shoot location, is Great Knights Farm, near Rye in East Sussex.
Historically a thriving farmstead, complete with cottage, granary and livestock barns, the farmyard is now left with a sense of desertion, be it we do use it for sheep husbandry tasks at different times of the year. Only recently did the ewes come into the yard overnight to be pregnancy scanned. The grass is good at Great Knights Farm – they are expecting at least 2 lambs each, on average!
Great Knights Farm is completely tucked away from the world, only accessible across a field and into the dip where the farmstead is nestled, with tremendous views out across the Brede Valley. Way back when, sheep used to be driven to the farmyard up from the marshes along a pretty drove road, lined with hedging.
There’s no electricity, just water and an endless supply of fresh air, nature’s activities and lots of lovely, crumbling traditional farm buildings.
Up close and personal, the old buildings burst with ideas for fabulous backdrops for film or photography.
Surrounding the farmyard are a patchwork of fields heading up and down one side of the Brede Valley. Pretty small hedged pastures as well as a huge 50 acre field with awe-inspiring views, provide many choices for film set locations or for a photo shoot.
There’s even a large hole in one field. Organise a film or photoshoot here at lambing time and capture on camera the lambs’ very own version of Formula 1. The lambs have brilliant fun whilst their mums are distracted at feed time.
And if you do need additional “props” such as sheep, lambs, tractors, collies, quad bikes, straw, landrovers, hay, etc etc, just ask…
